Atul Gawande, a surgeon and writer, writes in the New Yorker about his need for a coach in an area where most people don’t think of one:

“…I watched Rafael Nadal play a tournament match on the Tennis Channel. The camera flashed to his coach, and the obvious struck me as interesting: even Rafael Nadal has a coach. Nearly every élite tennis player in the world does. Professional athletes use coaches to make sure they are as good as they can be.

“But doctors don’t. I’d paid to have a kid just out of college look at my serve. So why did I find it inconceivable to pay someone to come into my operating room and coach me on my surgical technique?

“Later, after Gawande decides to hire a surgical coach, he notes that “that one twenty-minute discussion gave me more to consider and work on than I’d had in the past five years.”

The athletes at Cactus CrossFit have realized this: they can use a coach for fitness.   They are further along than most of their peers who waste their time doing the same bench press routines, treadmill walking on an incline, and hour long cardio classes year after year without results.

So consider a Cactus Athlete in the best school they could be in for fitness.  They are going to get results.  Now, which would get faster results:  Working in class, or spending one on one time with a tutor?

Please don’t misunderstand.  I LOVE classes.  The community, camaraderie, and competition is what makes CrossFit, and Cactus CrossFit, so great.

However, if you are struggling with the technique in a specific movement, or anything else, it might be time to schedule a private coaching session with one of the coaches.   Kevin and Mike are available in 1/2 hour or hour long sessions.    Want to work on some mobility drills that you can use going forward?  Mike’s your guy.   Need help with your kettlebell swing or Olympic Snatch?  Ask a coach.

Oh yeah, did you know you have a personal coaching session built into your existing membership?   Bronze members get a free half hour private skill session every 3 months, Silver members get a free skill lesson every 2 months, and Gold members get one every month.    Take advantage of the full benefits of your membership, and email or call Kevin to schedule.

And if you have any friends who could use some Fitness Coaching?  Send them our way!  Thanks!
